DRM (Digital Rights Management) has always been hated by a lot of people, it restricts what you can do with content you have paid your hard earned money for, and usually end’s up causing people who purchase the content problems. Where as people who simply pirate the content will never have any issues with it. It’s hardly an incentive to purchase something when you can download it and get a better experience. Now i understand why content producers like DRM, it is supposed to protect content they produce from been freely shared. It also allows restrictions to be placed on the content you have purchased, for example you can only play this music on 2x devices. To complicate things more a device has to be able to handle the DRM embedded in a file, so if you purchase a TV Show on iTunes, that TV show is not going to play on your Android Tablet, Windows Phone, Linux powered media centre and so on… whats more that content has to be authorized for use by a remote server. So here is where the big problem starts, what happens if that authorisation / activation server is down, taken offline, or if the company you purchased the content ceases to exist in a few years time, what…

Looking back at the Grand Theft Auto 3 series It’s pretty mind-blowing that games you formerly played via loading up a disc on your cutting-edge gaming console or PC just ten years ago can now be downloaded and played on your cell phone in a matter of minutes, Insane! Although one particular drawback of digital downloads is that you no longer get the experience of unwrapping the cellophane and packaging and diving in to explore those printed manuals, liner notes – and in the particular case of Rockstar games, those quite helpful printed map posters! Grand Theft Auto 3 has been out on iOS and Android devices for over a year now, with Vice City having recently been released. With that in mind Rockstar has released high quality .jpg files of the maps included in the box with Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas. Perfect to print out if you wish, or just browse as you play the games on your iOS and Android phones / Tablets. As it also happens Grand Theft Auto 3 is currently on sale on both the Google Play and iTunes stores for £0.69p, a real bargain! The game is a quality conversion to modern day mobile…

In celebrating the launch of Steam for Mac today, Valve Software has put out an enticing promotional campaign differing from their usual free weekends for content pack updates to their other games, such as Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead. This time, they will offer Portal for free, for everyone to keep forever, as long as they respond by May 24. Both Windows and Mac OS X gamers can once again play the much loved puzzle shooter of 2007’s The Orange Box that has won nearly 70 Game of the Year awards. Portal is a first person puzzle shooter that allows players to control a “portal gun,” more appropriately named the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. The players are “lab rats” guided by a mysterious voice known as GLaDOS who seemingly offers helpful advice to the player, but ultimately exposes much sinister motives as the game progresses. Players create “portals” that are used to transport themselves or any objects from one point to another, as they work through the Aperture Science facilities to solve puzzles. The game’s official trailer gives a nice quick overview of the game’s mechanics: To get the game, simply download a copy of Steam if…

Three, a mobile phone network in the UK have some pretty nice deals for pay and go customers, i actually found this out by clicking an advert on my own website too. Every time you top up £10 you will get 300 free txts (600 if you do it online!) 150mb of internet usage and free use of Windows Live Messenger and Skype. If that’s not good enough they also say your txt and internet usage allowance will reset as soon as you top up and not in 30 days time. I’m on o2 pay and go at the moment and spend £10 a month with that i get 300 free txts and 1mb (yes 1mb) of internet usage after I use that 1mb I’m charged £3 per mb. I also can’t use Windows Live or Skype with o2 even if I wanted to as its blocked! I’m really thinking about switching to Three, as ill get double the texts and would actually be able to use the internet / Windows Live Messenger on my phone when im not in an area with Wi-Fi. Just thought I would post this up anyway as it puts most pay and go tariffs…
